The East Anglia Coastal Group is a partnership of the local authorities and other relevant agencies that are responsible for integrated coastal management, including flood and coastal erosion risk management. Hard engineered defences are not right in every situation and sometimes risk is best managed by other means, such as creating new habitats to act as natural defences. The process of risk management involves evaluating many different options.
The purpose of the group is to provide a meeting place for the technical experts to share information and best practice and to liaise over the funding and implementation of local coastal management. The group has an important role in raising concerns at a higher level and has been successful in influencing government policy.
The area covered by the group includes all the shoreline from Gibraltar Point in Lincolnshire to the River Thames (upstream to the Thames Barrier).
